Tom Gates: Excellent Excuses (and Other Good Stuff) is the second book in the Tom Gates series by Liz Pichon. In this installment, Tom is up to his usual antics—avoiding homework, annoying his older sister Delia, and getting into mischief at school. He tries to come up with creative excuses to avoid trouble and get out of doing things he doesn't want to do, like completing his homework or practicing for school events.

Tom also deals with everyday challenges, such as navigating friendships, dealing with teachers, and trying to impress his crush, all while keeping up with his love for doodling and drawing. The book is filled with hilarious sketches, comic strips, and Tom's witty commentary on life, making it a fun and entertaining read for young readers.
