Early Indians: The Story of Our Ancestors and Where We Came From explores the origins and ancestry of the people of the Indian subcontinent. Journalist Tony Joseph draws on research from archaeology, genetics, linguistics, history and ancient DNA to explain how migrations over tens of thousands of years shaped the population of modern India.

The book examines the First Indians who migrated from Africa, early agricultural communities, the Harappan civilisation and later migrations from the Central Asian Steppe. It also explores questions about the origins of caste, the ancestry of North and South Indians, and the relationship between ancient populations and modern Indian identity.
