In Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (2014), the ninth book in Jeff Kinney’s series, Greg Heffley’s family embarks on a disastrous road trip that quickly spirals out of control. What was supposed to be a fun family vacation turns into a series of hilarious misadventures involving everything from a seagull invasion to a chaotic stay at a budget motel.

Greg’s mom envisions a bonding experience filled with classic road trip activities, but things go wrong at every turn. Along the way, the Heffleys encounter aggressive tourists, a runaway pig, and all sorts of travel mishaps that make Greg wish he had stayed home.

The book captures the ups and downs of family vacations, with Greg’s signature wit and humor making light of the chaos. Through a mix of comic-style illustrations and Greg's amusing narration, The Long Haul delivers plenty of laughs as Greg learns that sometimes, the journey is more important than the destination—even if it’s a total disaster.
