Plot Summary: The story follows Lehna Singh, who as a boy meets a young girl in a market. Years later, he discovers she is the wife of his commanding officer, Subedar Hazara Singh. Before they depart for the war in France, she begs Lehna Singh to protect her husband and their only son, Bodha Singh, reminding him of a childhood encounter where he saved her life.
