he book discusses traditional and non-traditional machining methods. For each method, it provides the theory, describes the equipment available, explains the process and gives a large amount of practical data. The traditional metal cutting processes covered are turning, boring, planning, slotting, shaping, drilling, reaming, deep-hole drilling, trepanning, milling practice, broaching, grinding processes, gear cutting practice, thread production, honing, lapping, super finishing and burnishing. The non-traditional processes include EDM, ECM, CHM, USM, AJM, LBM, EBM, PAM and IBM. Over a hundred of the latest ISI and ISO standards related to the processes discussed are included. HMT Limited was set up in 1953 in collaboration with the Oerlikon Machine Tool Works of Switzerland to produce precision centre lathes of Swiss design. From the modest beginning of a single product and a single factory, HMT has grown over the years into a giant organisation consisting of several factories spread all over India, producing the world's widest range of machine tools ranging from simple general purpose machine tools to highly sophisticated computer numerically controlled machining centres. HMT has also extended its manufacturing spectrum to include products like wrist-watches, tractors, printing machines, die-casting and plastic injection moulding machines, lamps and lamp-making machinery, dairy machinery and measuring instruments. HMT's production of machine tools covers over 70 designs which include those produced under collaboration and others constituting HMT's own designs. In addition to having full-fledged design and development facilities in every unit of HMT, the Corporate R & D Centre at Bangalore is constantly engaged in bringing out new designs of machine tools to keep HMT in the leading position of the Indian machine tool industry. The Central Technical Information Centre of HMT disseminates the latest information to all units of HMT to keep its engineers abreast of the latest developments in the field of machine tools and it also brings out a number of technical publications. What sets HMT apart from many of the other engineering establishments is its unshakable faith in high quality, and to offer that quality with anything that bears the HMT monogram. In addition to the manufacturing and marketing activities, HMT also offers project consultancy services in India and abroad. HMT is presently engaged in setting up turn-key projects in Nigeria, Tanzania and Algeria. HMT is acknowledged internationally for its quality machine tools which are exported to all the parts of the world. HMT's progeny of more than 45,000 machine tools are now busy producing a wide array of industrial goods in India and abroad.
