Jhajh ka panchi 's discription

“Jhajh ka panchi” usually refers to a bird seen around marshy or wetland areas in parts of North India. While it’s more of a local/folk name than a strict scientific term, people often use it for birds like the Jacana (especially the Bronze-winged or Pheasant-tailed Jacana), which are common near ponds and lakes.

Description (Jhajh ka panchi):

It is a medium-sized water bird found near ponds, lakes, and marshy fields.

It has long legs and extremely long toes, which help it walk easily on floating leaves (like lotus leaves).

The body is usually dark brown or black with some white markings, depending on the species.

It has a sharp beak and a graceful, light movement.

These birds are known for their unique ability to “walk on water” because of their wide-spread toes.

They feed on insects, small aquatic creatures, and plant material.

Their call is usually soft but can be sharp during the breeding season.

Special fact:

In Jacanas, the female is often bigger and more dominant, and males take care of the eggs and chicks.
